Only minutes away from the train station and near a soon to be completed hospital, the apartments at Midland aim to provide comfortable yet affordable housing for those living and working in the area. The difficult site and heavy restrictions on the heritage precinct challenged Atelier W to create and innovate, maximizing the number of units while maintaining the quality of living for all units.

 

The material palette is derived from the industrial nature of the site, with splashes of bright yellow to illuminate key areas such as the entry and the grand circular staircase up to the apartment levels.

 

A courtyard is hidden away in the centre of the building mass for inward facing units, providing a tranquil retreat from the hustle and bustle of the main square and roads.
